Memorial Day weekend 2024

Writer: Capt. CarlCapt. Carl

Beautiful weather and great fishing. We found Yellowtail Snapper willing to eat our small shrimp pieces. On both days we could see them on the bottom in 90 fow on the outer edge of the reef. The first fish came on the bottom rigs then ad the chum started flowing the Yellowtail began lining up behind the boat. We failed both days to pull a big Grouper off the bottom, on Saturday we kept a monster off the bottom but struggled to control the big fish, we had 35# of drag on the “heavy lifter “ but he swam under the boat and brushed the 100# braid against the Starboard prop, earning his freedom. On Monday we couldn’t keep the lunkers out of the reef, instead we caught a half limit of YT’s then headed to the Gulf to add some Mangrove Snapper to our catch.
